BROOKLYN - A Brooklyn man and woman were killed Tuesday after what police say was a "lover's quarrel."

Officials say Dalton Branch opened fire on officers just hours after shooting and killing his ex-girlfriend, Patricia Mohammed, outside a Queens casino.

Mohammed, 55, was with her current boyfriend outside of Resorts World Casino Tuesday morning when investigators say that she was gunned down by Branch.

"He told me that I should prepare myself to bury my niece," said Rosemarie Guilford, Mohammed's aunt.

Mohammed's family says Branch, 51, even called and texted them with threatening messages.

"He called back and he told me, you know, 'I gave it to her good. She's dead. So prepare yourself' and 'I could come and burn your house down'," Guilford said.

Those text messages led police to Branch's cellphone.

Police say they were able to track him to a parking lot on Stanley Avenue in East New York. They identified the white car he was in as the car the shooter had been driving.

Officials say they cornered Branch, and then he began shooting at them. They returned fire, hitting and killing him.

"They rolled up upon this vehicle to make an apprehension and were immediately fired upon by this individual," says Chief Detective Robert Boyce.

A .380-caliber gun was recovered from the scene along with ammo.
