NYPD plan for E. New York building causes stir

EAST NEW YORK - An NYPD plan to turn a community center in East New York into a training center has many local residents enraged.

After being vacant for six months, the building has gotten a new roof, had a boiler installed and a new paint job. The NYPD wants aspiring officers to take a job-standards test at the building, which once housed Police Athletic League activities.

Community members say they are not anti-police, but are looking for a compromise so kids can enjoy programs in the building.
