NEW YORK - The NYPD is sharing tips to promote smartphone safety citywide.

Smartphone users are encouraged to be aware of their surroundings at all times, to try not to bring attention to their tech items and to lock phones when not in use.

You should also consider insuring your devices, and download apps that help track stolen or lost phones.

Police say that Apple users should be especially careful because those products are hot items for thieves.
