NYPD's Kelly talks surveillance with Muslim leaders

DOWNTOWN MANHATTAN - NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly today met with Muslim leaders after months of debate about the police department's practice of monitoring mosques and Muslim communities.

One Muslim leader said Kelly was trying to calm tensions between his community and the NYPD by holding the closed-door meeting.

In a press release, Muslim organizations are asking for the next meeting with Kelly to be a townhall-style meeting that's open to the public.
