BROOKLYN - The NYPD is defending its social media campaign to promote positive relationships between police and the community after the Twitter request backfired.

The tweet requested users to submit photos of them with police officers to be featured on Facebook. Instead, the NYPD's account was flooded with negative images of police brutality.

The NYPD issued a statement saying the request for photos created an open dialogue that's good for the city.

"It's not going to cause us to change any of our efforts to be very active on social media," says Commissioner Bill Bratton.
