NYPD statistics show murder rate is down in Brooklyn for 2014

The grand larceny rate is up, but shootings, robberies and burglaries have also declined. (3/7/14)

BROOKLYN - The number of murders is going down in Brooklyn, according to new statistics from the NYPD. 

Data shows that the borough has seen 14 murders from the start of the year through Feb. 23, compared to 22 at the same time in 2013. 

The overall number of homicides is also down slightly citywide compared to last year, but the number of rapes has increased both in Brooklyn and across the boroughs.
