BROOKLYN - The New York City Police Department is extablishing a new way to fight crime.

The organization will now take photographs of the irises of criminals, called eye scan photos. These will be taken along with standard fingerprints and mugshots.

The NYPD says the images will be used to help avoid cases of mistaken identity.
