BROOKLYN - The Office of Emergency Management estimates Irene cost the city at least $55 million.

Irene made landfall with tropical storm force winds, which knocked down trees across Brooklyn. That figure includes emergency response and recovery efforts plus damage to public infrastructure.

Much of the city's costs are expected to be covered by state and federal aid.
