EAST NEW YORK - An off-duty police officer killed a man in a shootout inside an East New York nightclub Saturday.

Authorities say there was a confrontation between a 21-year-old man and two off-duty officers inside The Elite Ark club around 3:30 a.m. Police say the 21-year-old shot one of the officers in the foot and the other officer fired back, hitting the suspect. The suspect later died at the hospital. Police recovered a semiautomatic weapon at the scene.

The injured officer was taken to Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center where he is listed in stable condition. Neighbors say the club is the scene of many parties and violence erupts there often.
