Officer injured in motorcycle crash improving

BROOKLYN - The officer injured in a motorcycle crash on May 16 is improving significantly and has been taken off sedation, according to Police Commissioner Ray Kelly.

Police say officer Carlos Olmedo was in pursuit of three suspected car thieves on foot when he was hit by a motorcycle. Olmedo was taken to the hospital with severe head trauma and other injuries.

The motorcyclist has not been charged in this incident.
