BROOKLYN - A suspect being chased by police in Bed-Stuy was shot after he raised a firearm in the direction of pursuing officers, investigators say.

The incident happened at around 2 p.m. on Hart Street near Marcus Garvey Boulevard.

An NYPD spokesperson says the officers were at the Heritage Row playground when they saw three men run by, one of them armed with a gun. Police were chasing after the group when the armed man turned toward the officers and pointed the gun in their direction, investigators say. An officer then opened fire, shooting the suspect in the leg.

The suspect was transported to Kings Country Hospital. The officers involved with the incident were taken to Methodist Hospital for observation.

Police recovered a loaded semi-automatic .40 caliber gun from the scene.
