BROOKLYN - Fire investigators say snow is to blame for a manhole fire that sparked in Borough Park this afternoon, prompting the evacuation of 15 people.
According to officials, melting snow seeped underground and caused a transformer fire around 2 p.m. on 40th Street between 15th and 16th avenues.
Witnesses say they saw flames shooting out of the manhole.
Consolidated Edison emergency workers say they were able to shut off electricity to the area before the incident worsened.
No injuries were reported, and the evacuated families were able to return home later in the day.
