BROOKLYN - Police opened fire on a 35-year-old woman who allegedly lunged at them with a knife at 107 Brooklyn Ave. in Crown Heights.

Authorities say they received a call from the woman's parents saying that she was suicidal and behaving erratically. When two officers arrived shortly before 3 p.m., the woman allegedly lunged at them with a 15-inch knife.

Police say one of the officers fired a shot, striking the woman in the torso. She is in stable condition at Kings County Hospital.

One of the officers suffered a back injury during the incident and was also taken to Kings County Hospital. The other officer is being evaluated at Methodist Hospital.

Authorities say the shooting is under investigation and crime scene units have searched the area for evidence.
