Officials: NYC terror suspect to plead guilty

NEW YORK - (AP) - Law enforcement officials say a man charged in aplot to attack the New York subway system with homemade bombs plansto plead guilty.

Two law enforcement officials say Zarein Ahmedzay is expected to enter the plea Friday afternoon inBrooklyn federal court.

The officials spoke to The Associated Press on condition ofanonymity because formal court action had not yet been taken.

Ahmedzay had pleaded not guilty to making false statements tothe FBI about a plan by admitted al-Qaida associate Najibullah Zazi to launch suicide bombing attacks onManhattan subway lines.

Authorities said the attacks were timed for days after theeighth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorism. There was no immediate response to a phone message left withAhmedzay's lawyer.
