NEW YORK - (AP) - A one-time burlesque palace in Brooklyn's ConeyIsland has been named a landmark by the city's LandmarksPreservation Commission.

The panel today awarded the status to the Coney Island Theater,which was built in the 1920s and remains the tallest building inthe neighborhood.

The seven-story masonry building also has served as a 2,500-seatmovie theater and bingo hall. It was initially operated by MarcusLoew, who founded the movie theater chain that carried his familyname.
