Opening arguments began today in the civil trial against four NYPD officers accused of sexually assaulting Michael Mineo and then allegedly covering up the crime

BROOKLYN - Opening arguments began today in the civil trial against four NYPD officers accused of sexually assaulting Michael Mineo and then allegedly covering up the crime back in 2008.

A jury found officers Richard Kern, Alex Cruz, and Andrew Morales not guilty of sexual assault and conspiracy during the criminal trial.

Mineo then filed a civil lawsuit against the officers and one other officer that was not charged in the criminal case.

Mineo is suing the officers for up to $440 million. His attorney says he believes his client's second chance at justice will be a better one.
