BROOKLYN - Today marks Day 5 of the heat wave.

The oppressive heat is keeping many people indoors, but News 12 cameras caught some residents jogging and bike riding, as well as tourists snapping pictures of the skyline.

Many residents can be seen retreating to the safety of shade to enjoy the weather, while others flock to the pools and beaches to cool off.

"I try to stay as cool as possible," says Akeel Abdul. "I drink as much water as I can, stay hydrated, keep a hat on and try to stay out of the sun."

Experts say it is important to drink plenty of water during such hot days. The city has set up several cooling centers around the borough to give residents relief from the heat.

The oppressive heat is expected to last until Saturday, after which the borough should take a much-needed break from the aggressive beating of the sun.
