BROOKLYN - A Brooklyn convent founded by Mother Teresa is carrying on her charitable legacy as the Catholic Church is set to bestow her with a great religious honor.

Mother Teresa will become a saint on Sunday.

The Our Lady of Victory Convent in Bedford-Stuyvesant has provided a home for mothers and their babies since it was founded in the 1990s.

Yvonne Samaroo, 79, says she's been volunteering there for 25 years.

"I know that the girls are grateful, because some of them have nowhere to go, and when they come, they are here, and they feel very at home," she says.

Recalling one of the highlights of her volunteering, Samaroo says she once met Mother Teresa during a visit.

"She embraced me," she says. "And I got a medal, and she said thank you for doing what I'm doing."
