BROOKLYN - P.S. 256 is celebrating the grand opening of its state-of-the-art science lab.

The Bedford-Stuyvesant school received a $400,000 grant for construction of the science lab.

The opening marks a huge turnaround for the school. Just one year ago, it was on the list to be closed after students’ test scores fell.

Principal Sharyn Hemphill was determined to keep the school open, so she and the rest of the staff worked on attendance, test scores and even held classes on Saturday.
