BROOKLYN - Students, teachers and parents of P.S. 97 are rallying to save the interim acting principal, Maria Famoso, from being replaced.
Famoso was made the acting principal in October after being the assistant principal at the school for 18 years. The Department of Education is now bringing in a new principal for the upcoming school year.
Residents say Famoso was never considered for the full-time position, and will now likely be transferred to a new school or retire.

Parents at the rally say Famoso has been excellent for the school and removing her will be a detriment to the facility.
Teachers have also expressed frustrations, saying they feel as though they have been left in the dark.
The Department of Education has yet to release a comment on the matter.
