PARK SLOPE - Dozens of Park Slope residents rallied at John Jay High School Friday to protest a student's treatment by school security earlier in the week, they say.

An unnamed senior was passing through a metal detector Thursday when witnesses say security guards took issue with his glasses, which were held together by a gold pin.

Security agents allegedly threw the student down on the ground and then handcuffed him.

The security guards may have viewed the glasses as a weapon, one student said.

A short while later, as the victim filled out a report on the incident in the principal's office, police arrived and arrested him, according to Katie Mosher-Smith, president of the school’s Parent Teacher Association.

Parents and students say they want the school to consider alternative safety methods, and plan to hold a town hall meeting to start a broader dialogue on issues at the school.
