NEW YORK - Parents are being reminded to submit applications for free and reduced-price school meals for their kids.

The Department of Education has made some changes this year. If your child previously qualified for a lower-cost meal, then they will now get their lunch for free.

Students who do not return an application, or who are not eligible for the program, will pay $1.75 this year, an increase from $1.50.

The deadline is Sept. 30.
