CYPRESS HILLS - The New York City Department of Education has confirmed that it fired the principal of Multicultural High School in Cypress Hills over the summer.

Officials say Altagracia Liciaga was fired for allowing a student who had just received a driver's license to drive a truck with five other students to Manhattan to pick up file cabinets. The officials say they missed the entire day of school last December. The truck also did not have enough seat belts for all of the passengers, according to officials.

Many students say they weren't provided with a reason for Liciaga's departure.

Parents say they hope Liciaga's replacement will make better decisions involving the safety of children.
