Parents, teachers rally to save BK day care

CONEY ISLAND - Parents and teachers met with Rep. Recchia (D-District 47) today to try and save La Puerta Abierta Day Care Center in Coney Island.

The day care is in jeopardy of being shut down again due to city budget cuts.  Parents say this is the second time the city has tried to close down the center.

Recchia says the city's Administration for Children's Services no longer wants to pay rent on the day care building, even though the landlord is willing to renegotiate the contract.

Parents and teachers will have to wait until the City Council votes on its budget in June to find out if the day care will be closed.  Recchia encouraged parents to continue to protest until then.
