BROOKLYN - Parents, teachers and students rallied Monday to save a Gravesend school principal.

They say that the Department of Education is pushing Maria Famoso out of P.S. 97 in the fall for no apparent reason.

Famoso has been assistant principal at Gravesend Elementary School for 18 years and has been acting principal since October.

Parents and teachers say if the Department of Education gets its way, Famoso will either move to a different school or retire.

Councilman Mark Treyger promised the group that he would stand up and seek answers from the school's chancellor.
