Park Smart plan facing possible changes

PARK SLOPE - City officials are proposing a plan to increase Muni-Meter parking rates on Fifth and Seventh avenues in Park Slope.

The new proposal would increase costs of the Park Smart program, raising the price of peak hour meter parking from $1.50 to $2.25. Hours considered to be during the peak time could also increase. The program might also be expanded to 15th Street on both avenues.

The city has reported that the plan has been bringing more customers into local stores. However, business owners fear the price hikes in the proposal will be too much and drive commerce out.
