COBBLE HILL - The roof of a four-story building came crashing down in Cobble Hill overnight, forcing the fire department to evacuate surrounding residential buildings.

The exterior of 217 Court St. is still standing, but fire officials say the roof and the top three floors collapsed in the rear of the building.

No one lived in the apartments on the top three floors. The first floor houses a methadone clinic, which was closed when the roof collapsed. An administrator for the clinic says the patients will be shuttled to other clinics in the area.

The Department of Buildings says it issued a violation to the building's owner for failure to maintain. It?s also making the owner demolish the rear addition of the building where the collapse occurred.

Residents in the neighboring buildings won't be able to return home until the demolition is complete.
