Passport fee hikes go into effect

BROOKLYN - The U.S. State Department has increased all passport-related fees effective from today.

Adults who plan to travel abroad will now have to shell out $135 for a new passport book, which is 35 percent higher than before. The price of a new child's passport is now $105.

Beginning from today, it will cost $110 to renew an adult's passport, up from $75, and $20 to renew a minor's passport.

In addition, getting a passport card will now cost $55 for an adult and $40 for a child, while obtaining extra passport visa pages will set a traveler back $82.
