BROOKLYN - Gov. David Paterson (D-N.Y.) announced a $40 million cash infusion deal today to save struggling Long Island College Hospital.
As part of the deal, the Carroll Gardens hospital will join forces with SUNY Downstate Medical Center. The hospital has struggled for years, laying off several workers and cutting costs.
Now SUNY officials say no jobs will be lost and it will absorb Long Island College Hospital's $170 million debt.
Officials say the merger will take place by early next year.
