Planned Brownsville school closure causes stir

BROWNSVILLE - Parents in Brownsville were out in force Thursday protesting the planned closure of an elementary school.

The Department of Education has proposed shuttering P.S. 332 by 2013, saying it hasn't met certain benchmarks for academic success.

Parents who protested Thursday say their children will be displaced if the school is closed. The DOE's plan is to shut the school down and eventually open a new elementary school and junior high charter school by 2013.
