BROOKLYN - Before you head out to your Fourth of July festivities, make sure to plan ahead for travel.
The LIRR and Metro-North provided more than 30 extra trains Wednesday.

On Thursday, the subways and buses will operate on a Saturday schedule with increased subway service on the 1, 3, A, C, E, the 42nd street shuttle and L lines.
To ease driving, construction will be suspended on all MTA bridges and tunnels through Sunday.

And if you’re planning on hosting a party, there are a few things you need to remember. Officials urge caution when traveling and barbecuing with meat. When transporting food in a cooler, be sure to keep meats cold and separate from other items. All meats should be fully defrosted prior to being placed on the barbecue. Beef and pork should be cooked at 160 degrees, and chicken at 165 degrees.

Don’t forget to wash your hands when handling raw meats as to avoid contaminating other items.
