(01/19/07) CROWN HEIGHTS &舑; A once-popular Crown Heights day care center has apparently lost its luster, making the future a question mark.

The 196 Albany Avenue Day Care Center was closed between 2005 and 2006 for lead paint removal and upgrades. Although the closure was meant to better the facility, it may ultimately lead to its closure in the long run. Representatives from the Administration for Children&舗;s Services (ACS) say enrollment has gone from 100 students with a waiting list, down to about 45 with several open spots.

The ACS says if the day care can&舗;t enroll 20 additional students by the end of February, it will be forced to close or merge the facility. Parents have started a campaign to boost enrollment. They are passing out flyers in an effort to generate interest in the day care so it can remain open.
