Police: 1 injured after man steals school bus

BENSONHURST - Police say a man stole an empty school bus today at 86th Street and 20th Avenue, crashed into several vehicles and fled the scene.

Authorities say the incident happened at about 1:40 p.m. The driver of an SUV police say was hit by the school bus was taken to the hospital for observation.

Witnesses say as soon as the bus came to a crashing stop, the driver hopped out and began to run, as local merchants attempted to chase him down. The suspect managed to escape, police say.
