BROOKLYN - Five people were arrested after they allegedly attacked a man in Prospect Park because of his sexual orientation, according to police.

The victim told News 12 that it appeared that one of the suspects was sick and in need of assistance. When he offered him something to drink, police say the suspect responded by yelling anti-gay slurs and began to beat him.

Authorities say that four of the suspects were teenagers, with the other being 21 years old. They have been charged with gang assault and harassment as a hate crime.

The victim, who was treated at the scene, said that he was bruised, but is recovering.
