CONEY ISLAND - Police say that a 7-year-old girl who survived a six-story window fall on Wednesday may have been the victim of abuse.

The girl, who was visiting from Florida, was rushed to Lutheran Hospital with injuries to her head and lungs and is in critical condition.

Toxicology tests at the hospital showed traces of drugs in her system.

Before the fall, the child was reported missing earlier in the day from her family's apartment at the Gravesend Houses in Coney Island, but was returned to her family by officers about 20 minutes after the report was made.

Then, a few hours later, horrified neighbors watched as they saw the same girl fall to the ground. One witness says she couldn't imagine the family abusing her because they seemed so frightened and concerned right after the girl fell.

The girl and her 1-year-old brother are now in ACS custody as officials investigate the incident.
