BEDFORD-STUYVESANT - Police say a carjacker dropped a little girl off at a gas station shortly after he stole her mother's car and realized he wasn't alone.

According to police, the mother left her car running at Fulton Street and Verona Place while she went inside a store. While she was inside, police say the suspect took the car with the 4-year-old girl inside.

The mother called police and told them her cellphone was still inside the car as well, which police were able to track. However, the thief ditched the phone, leading police to another location.

Shortly afterward, the police got a phone call saying the child had been dropped off at a Mobil gas station on Atlantic Avenue and Hendrix Street. The child appeared unharmed, but was taken to Brookdale Hospital, where she's being observed. The car and the suspect both remain at large.
