BROOKLYN - Police say an elderly man was struck and killed by a car Saturday in East Flatbush.

The incident happened on East 95th Street near Linden Boulevard.

Investigators say Joseph Hippolite was trying to cross the street in the middle of the block at the time of the crash.

Hippolite's family says he was a healthy 85-year-old who was simply following his weekly routine of walking to the store.

They say he was hit by a 25-year-old driving a 2006 Nissan, who remained at the scene.
