Police kill man after 5-hour standoff

BRIGHTON BEACH - Police say a Brighton Beach man was shot and killed by NYPD officers Saturday after he threatened them with a 12-inch kitchen knife.

Authorities responded to a call at 607 Brighton Beach Ave. after a 19-year-old woman told them she was kidnapped and raped by her ex-boyfriend, Samson White. Police say White was arrested 12 times since 2006 for committing crimes against his ex-girlfriend and her family.

Officers say they tried for five hours to get White to surrender, but when they entered the apartment, he lunged at them with the knife. Two officers then opened fire.

White was taken to Coney Island Hospital, where he died.
