Police: Man tries to kill officer during traffic stop in Bed-Stuy

Police say a man tried to kill a police sergeant this morning during a traffic stop in Bedford-Stuyvesant.Officials say two officers pulled over a speeding

BEDFORD-STUYVESANT - Police say a man tried to kill a police sergeant this morning during a traffic stop in Bedford-Stuyvesant.

Officials say two officers pulled over a speeding livery cab around 4 a.m. at Quincy Street and Malcolm X Boulevard and when approaching the car, Sgt. Michael Miller noticed the passenger appearing to adjust his waistband.

During a pat-down of the passenger, Sgt. Miller found a .38 caliber revolver. A violent struggle ensued with the suspect attempting to fire the gun at the sergeant's stomach. Miller was able to stop the gun from firing by jamming his finger between the hammer and cylinder, according to investigators.

The suspect has been identified as 30-year-old Eugene Graves. He has been charged with attempted murder of a police officer.

Sgt. Miller is expected to be OK, according to officials.
