BROOKLYN - Police investigated two suspicious packages in Brooklyn.

Authorities say the first package was found at FDNY headquarters. Investigators say a letter sent to the fire prevention office contained powder in a plastic bag. The building was not evacuated.

Police officials said that the powder was no longer deemed suspicious after further inspection.

Sources on scene say a second suspicious device was found under a trash can on East 19th Street in Midwood. Authorities say the package was wrapped in electrical tape with a battery stuck to the front. The bomb squad was called to investigate, and the package was taken to the police firing range at Rodman's Neck for further examination.
