Police probe altercation between Jewish man, Muslim couple

MILL BASIN - Police say they are investigating allegations that a Jewish man punched a Muslim man and poured a drink on his wife over the weekend.

Officials say Shimchon Schwartz got involved in an argument with his Muslin neighbor at their apartment complex on East 70th Street Saturday. Schwartz allegedly called the couple derogatory names as well as calling them terrorists before assaulting them.

A baby sitter who saw the incident says that things occurred differently and that it was the Muslim couple screaming derogatory things at Schwartz.

When police arrived, they say Schwartz tried to hide from them and resisted arrest. He now faces multiple charges, including assault, resisting arrest and harassment.
