BROOKLYN - Police are investigating a menorah fire outside of a Kensington synagogue.

Authorities were called to Chabad Lubavitch of Kensington on Ocean Parkway near Foster Avenue just after midnight.

Investigators say a 10-foot menorah was burning on the ground. The initial call to firefighters came in as a fire in the garbage on the front lawn.

The NYPD and FDNY are investigating, and the Hate Crimes Task Force has been notified.

The building was empty at the time of the fire due to construction in the synagogue. No one was hurt during the incident.

The synagogue's program director says he is not sure when building construction will resume, but noted if people want to worship they can pray across the street at the Ocean Parkway Jewish Center.
