BROOKLYN - The NYPD says two suspicious men were spotted in the area around two synagogues in Flatbush.

Assemblyman Dov Hikind says the men, described as being of “Middle Eastern background,” attempted to enter the Beth Torah synagogue on Ocean Parkway on Saturday at around 4:15 p.m. They were seen looking at the surveillance camera and attempting to take pictures of the building.

They left after a security guard spoke to them.

Hikind says about an hour later, the men were seen in front of another nearby synagogue, Congregation Bet Yaakob. Officers from the NYPD Counterterrorism Bureau stood outside the synagogue Sunday morning.

The assemblyman is asking the public to stay calm, but to remain cautious.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
