Police search Bed-Stuy block for suspect

BEDFORD-STUYVESANT - Police shut down a block in Bedford-Stuyvesant where a suspect in a robbery was believed to be hiding out Friday afternoon.

Police evacuated 688 Willoughby Ave. as they searched for a man they say robbed a Pay-O-Matic check cashing store a few blocks away.

Police say the man let off one round with a shotgun at the check cashing store, ditched the weapon and then ran off. Police say they recovered the shotgun.

The search was called off after police were unable to find the suspect. Tenants of 688 Willoughby Ave., who were evacuated, were soon allowed back into the building when the search ended.
