WILLIAMSBURG - A man is in critical condition after he was shot following a police chase through Williamsburg.

According to police, an officer shot a man behind 255 Havemeyer St. around 11:30 last night. Sources say cops were pursuing the man in a stolen Saturn near Kent Avenue and Broadway when the suspect left the stolen vehicle and ran toward Williams Plaza houses.

Police say they shot the suspect after realizing he was carrying a gun, and they say they recovered a 38-caliber semi-automatic gun from the scene.

It's not clear if the man fired at police, but he was critically wounded and is at Bellevue Hospital.

Police say no officers were injured in the incident and they are still investigating.
