Police step up security at synagogues across the city

BROOKLYN - The NYPD is stepping up patrols in Jewish communities throughout the city as tensions flare in the Middle East.

In Brooklyn, many Jews say they have family and friends in Israel and are worried about their well-being. Militants have already launched several rockets into Tel Aviv since an Israeli offensive was launched in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday.

Officials insist there is no imminent threat locally and that added security is just a safety precaution.
