Police, students tip off in memorial basketball tournament

BROOKLYN - Police and students went head-to-head tonight for the second annual "Bridge the Gap" basketball tournament.

The tournament was held in honor of fallen police detective Russel Timoshenko.  Officials say Timoshenko was conducting a routine traffic stop when he was fatally shot back in 2007.

Organizers say the tournament is a great way to break down the walls between police and the community. They say money raised from the basketball tournament will go toward a scholarship fund to help Medgar Evers College students looking to study public service.

Timoshenko's family was in attendance at tonight's games.
