BROOKLYN - A violent scuffle between several police officers and teenagers left many in the emergency room Monday.

Police say a large group of students appeared to be fighting and that when officers intervened, they were attacked.

Shaban John, who was injured in the scuffle, says police used excessive force, causing a gash in her head that needed seven staples to close.

John and three other teens were arrested and charged with assault.

John's mother and City Councilman Charles Barron are calling for the charges to be dropped, citing excessive force by police.

Two of the officers involved in the scuffle were hospitalized and released with minor injuries.
