Poll: 4 in 10 in city happy about bin Laden's death

BROOKLYN - A poll finds that New York City residents metOsama bin Laden's death with a mixture of happiness, surprise andrelief - and the president's approval ratings among New Yorkersjumped 10 percent.

The Marist Poll results released Wednesday show that 39percent of city residents surveyed said they felt happy uponhearing that bin Laden was dead. Another 24 percent said they feltsurprised, 10 percent felt excited and 7 percent felt relieved.

The survey also finds that 69 percent of the city's registeredvoters say President Barack Obama is doing a good or excellent job.That's up from 59 percent a week earlier.

The telephone poll of 502 randomly selected New York Cityresidents was done Monday. The margin of error is plus or minus 4.5percentage points.
