Poll: Most NYC voters dislike mayor's budget job

BROOKLYN - (AP) - A new poll says more than half of New York Cityvoters disapprove of how Mayor Michael Bloomberg is handling thecity's budget.

The Marist College poll released Thursday found that 56percent of voters don't like his handling of the budget and 65percent are displeased with his treatment of public schools.

The survey comes after a tense budget season in which Bloomberghas said he's being forced to cut services and drop more than 6,000teachers from the payroll.

Mayor's spokesman Stu Loeser says "the mayor continues to maketough choices in a difficult time, which is what he was elected todo."

After a slight upward tick last month, the mayor's job approvalfell again, with 40 percent saying he's doing an excellent or goodjob and 59 characterizing his performance as fair or poor.
